Welcome

Hello JED and welcome to AboutUs!

Below are a few pages that should help you along with editing this wiki.

Featured Pages

  • AboutUs also has Featured Pages. If you come across a article (which could be about websites, users, portal pages or any non-domain specific page) that you think deserves a nomination, then just follow the steps of Nomination.
  • You will find a list of sites that are all ready nominated. You as a CommunityMember can go to the Feature Me Potentials and give your opinion on the nominees. Your input is encouraged and valued because your reasons help toward the decision of who becomes Featured

Please sign your name on talk pages using three or four tildes (~~~ or ~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and, with four, the date. If you need help ask me on my talk page. Just to let you know I am not a bot. I am here if you have any questions for me. Click Here To Leave a Message. To know more about me Click here.

WikiNode

Hello! I just wanted to talk with you about your wiki and the WikiNode concept. Also, check out the NamingPractices discussion. Look forward to it, best, MarkDilley

We have over 10 million pages, and I'd guess 99% of them are named for the domains. See DomainPages. In fact, the bot creates the pages that way when you type a domain name into the find bar (unless it's a subdomain or having a bad hair day or something). We've also baked it into our domain box in the top-right of all domain pages. If the page isn't named for the domain, the "go directly to site" link is broken. Of course this could be fixed from a technical standpoint, but since a consensus has never evolved that we ought to change it, the status quo seems to be the rule. I was actually of the opinion that we ought to use the company name when I started the NamingPractices page back in May 2007. I'm no longer so sure, mostly because of MarkDilley's influence. One point in this direction is that The domain is the part that's not ambiguous, while company and organization names often are. We can easily create redirects from company names to the DomainPage, so I've decided this is a good compromise. I'd love to see your contributions on the NamingPractices page and perhaps I'll switch sides again. :-) TedErnst (talk) 09:41, 3 January 2008 (PST)
Looks like Ted is pointing you in a good direction, add your thoughts to the NamingPractices page! :-) When can we have a quick voice chat about WikiNodes? Best, MarkDilley | talk Comment_green.gif
